Rudrabhishek
Abhishek of the Shivling with panchamrit and water, accompanied by the Rudram — performed for health, and on Mondays and Shivratri.
About this Ritual
Rudrabhishek is the ceremonial bathing of the Shivling while the Sri Rudram is recited. The abhishek proceeds through the panchamrit in order — milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar — and then water, each poured continuously while the recitation runs. It is most commonly booked for health in the family, for relief during a difficult planetary period, and on Mondays through the month of Shravan. Families who keep a Shivling at home can have it performed on their own; otherwise the pandit brings one. The recitation is what sets the length: a full Rudram is not something to hurry, and the timing quoted assumes it is read properly rather than abridged.
