Griha Pravesh
The housewarming ceremony — vastu shanti, kalash sthapana and a havan before the family first occupies a new home.
About this Ritual
Griha Pravesh is performed before a family sleeps in a new home for the first time. It has three parts, and the order matters: the vastu shanti settles the ground and structure, the kalash sthapana establishes a consecrated pot at the entrance, and the havan carries the offerings. The ceremony ends with the boiling over of milk on the new stove — the first thing cooked in the house, and the moment the home is considered occupied. The pandit will ask for a muhurat window rather than a single time, because the milk should boil at the auspicious moment and the havan has to finish first. For a rented flat or an office the same ceremony is performed in a shortened form; say so when booking and the timing is adjusted.
