Namkaran Sanskar
The naming ceremony, held on the eleventh or twelfth day — the name is whispered to the child after the sankalp.
About this Ritual
Namkaran is the formal naming of a newborn, traditionally on the eleventh or twelfth day after birth. The syllable a name should begin with is often taken from the nakshatra at the moment of birth; if you would like that worked out, send the birth time when you book and the pandit will bring the letter with him. The ceremony is brief and quiet by design. After the sankalp and a short havan, the chosen name is spoken into the child's right ear four times, and then announced to the family. A newborn sets the pace here. The timing quoted is generous on purpose and nobody will hurry you.
