Lakshmi Puja
The Diwali evening puja to Lakshmi, Ganesha and Kubera — performed at home or at the shop on the amavasya.
About this Ritual
Lakshmi Puja is held on the Diwali amavasya, in the evening, after the house has been cleaned and the diyas lit. Ganesha is worshipped first, as always; Lakshmi follows; and Kubera is included where the family keeps accounts or runs a business. For traders this is also the chopda pujan — the ceremonial opening of the new account books, and the start of the financial year in the Gujarati and Marwari calendar. Say when booking whether you want it included, because it changes what is set out on the altar. Diwali is the single busiest evening of the year. Book early: the auspicious window is a couple of hours long and every family wants the same one.
