Kundli Milan compares two birth charts for a proposed marriage. The ashtakoot system scores eight factors out of a total of thirty-six, and the score is the part everyone has heard of — but a number on its own is not a recommendation, and it is not treated as one here. The consultation covers the guna score, the Mangal Dosh position in both charts, and the specific factors behind the number rather than the number alone. Two charts scoring the same total can mean quite different things. Both families are welcome on the call. In practice that is the version worth having, because the questions people actually want answered rarely get asked when only one side is listening.
